I was trying to take pictures of Scout and her new walking skills…but she mostly wanted to walk to me and give me kisses. I am fine with that. The rest of the pictures are on flickr! She is such a mess!

Guess who took her first steps all by herself on Saturday night!!!???!?!?!?

She isn’t running around just yet…but she can climb the stairs and she can walk across the room (if she chooses to do so).

but she has a vagina

Today Scout and I went to the store. Be patient…it gets better.
Frequently people assume that Scout is a boy…it seems to be based solely on the fact that she still has no hair. She is always dressed very much like a girl…but for some reason when people see a bald baby they assume she is a boy. Now to be fair…this misunderstanding seems to happen more frequently with older adult men. Now to the story.

Setting: Wal-Mart Deli counter
Time: Middle of the day (peak old people shopping hour)

The scene begins with Ronda and Scout in front of the deli counter. Scout is dressed ENTIRELY in pink and is wearing a silver pacifier clip shaped like a flower. Scout is sitting in the shopping cart that is covered with her PINK “buggy cover.”

Enter very old man

VOM: Hey there little fella!
Ronda: Say Hi
VOM: Aren’t you a fine looking young man
Ronda: (rolls eyes)
VOM: You sure a handsome little fella.
Ronda: Thank you (it is just easier sometimes)
VOM: (noticing pacifier clip) Now hey there little fella…why are you wearing that flower? It makes you look like a girl.
Ronda: (nicely) She is a girl.
VOM: (totally shocked) Really?
Ronda: Yes.
VOM: But she doesn’t have any hair.
Ronda: (with a strained and patient smile) I know…but she is still a girl.
VOM: (speaking to me as if I am stupid) BUT she has NO hair. None
Ronda: (very sweetly) I know…BUT she does have a vagina.
VOM: (mouth hanging open) Have a nice day (VOM hurries away)
Deli Lady: (laughing) that was funny
Ronda: We try.

(The names of this story have not been changed to protect the innocent…nor has the story been embellished to make it funnier. We are just that good.)
