A Circus recap and a wig

Yesterday we went to the circus. You may remember that I was very conflicted over the whole circus thing. I have issues with making the animals perform…because I doubt they use positive reinforcement as the only means of getting them to cooperate. Each crack of the whip was my own personal Jewish mother. I mean it isn’t like the elephants are acting up in Target …
But this isn’t about my inner turmoil…
It was actually pretty amazing to watch Scout be in awe of everything going on around her. We were sitting in teh Circus Celebrity seats…which means that we actually got to go down on the floor for part of the show. That was very cool. Scout loved all the singing and dancing and it was all we could do to keep her from going out there and dancing with the rest of the show! She had a BLAST!
We did have one major meltdown when Scout announced that she had to go to the potty. We headed to the bathroom and of course there were 800 people in line and she lost it! She was crying and telling me over and over that she had to potty. I felt so bad for her and completely helpless. We did eventually make it to the potty without an accident but with lots of drama and tears!
Now let’s talk about the lady sitting next me. She was probably in her mid 50s and her daughter, SIL and grandkids were sitting in front of us. I have no idea what she was on but she was almost completely expressionless the entire time. Now you may be wondering how I even noticed her with all the excitement of the circus…
Well it could be because she had on the most HORRIBLE WIG I have ever seen!!! (ok…maybe not the most horrible but it was pretty bad) The thing about the wig was that it was not at all appropriate for a woman her age (neither was the color). AND it had this weird hump at the top. I think it was from being stored flat …you know like a crease or something. The best part was when we were down on the circus floor…one of the clowns was pretending to look for bugs in her hair and she didn’t even notice! (you know because she couldn’t feel them touching her hair!!!!) Anyway…I found her hair very distracting. I would catch myself staring at it instead of the show. Luckily her mood stabilizing drugs kept her from noticing.

You must have been sitting REALLY close to us. We were in the front row over by the sound pit. I’m glad Scout had fun. Jillian did pretty good, she was AMAZED by a lot of it!

I love the circus — I remember my parents taking me when I was a kid. Of course, now, it’s all electronically and digitally done, less talent, more lights, blah blah blah. I agree with you on the animal stuff, but I can’t wait til next month when we take Noah. He’s going to LOVE it.
Wig? Creepy. The bug thing? HYSTERICAL.
