Laryngomalacia

Posted on June 10th, 2008 in Penelope, Sickness by Aardvark

We saw the specialist this morning. Miss P has Laryngomalacia. It is not serious enough at this point to require surgery. Dr. Castillo told us to expect it to get worse before it gets better. We are still aggressively treating her reflux which will help but there is nothing we can do for the laryngomalacia right now. She should out grow it in the next 12-18 months unless it worsens to the point that surgery is necessary. We are hoping it doesn’t come to that. Dr. Castillo seemed pretty confident that her condition was not severe enough to progress to a surgical intervention level. So keep your fingers crossed!

The worst part of the visit this morning - having to hold her while they stuck a tiny tube with a camera up her nose and down the throat so they could see her larynx.

The cool part of the visit this morning - the doctor letting us look at the picture he was getting of her larynx so we could see exactly what he was talking about.

Ugh, I just read the link, and poor Penelope. Poor you guys! I’m so glad it’s something that might resolve on its own, and I’ll be thinking happy, floppy-tissue free thoughts for her.

    Love, Caroline

Poor Miss P! I hate it when they say it is going to get worse before it gets better, is there ever a time when that doesn’t happen? I hope that she doesn’t require the surgery and it resolves on its own before getting worse. Good luck.

POOR Ittle girl!! I had the “gag-me-until I die” up the nose down the throat procedure a couple of times when I was in my teens to justify my surgery for acid reflux. It stunk!!! I’ll be thinking about her!

She’s a braver girl than me, that up the nose stuff is not my bag. I hope the growing out part is super fast and the better before it gets worse part lasts about 30 minutes.

goodless, poor little thing. I hope she grows out of it.

That sounds awful having to watch the procedure, but at least you have an understanding of it.

So now you know - I hope it brings you a little comfort to know what’s wrong and that it’s fixable. How terrible to have to get that tube into such a little girl!!! I’m rooting for her to outgrow it!

Oh no. Is there an update on this? My 2nd child went through this, thankfully we never had to get the surgery and she did eventually grow out of it. She had a VERY bad case.

    homemom3s last blog post..Weekend Thursday
