“Talent” Show
By Aardvark | March 9, 2005
OK…so I think the definition of talent has been blurred in the eyes of the public school. I say jump roping is NOT a talent. I say that most emphatically. However, what is the difference in a “talent” and a “skill”? There were several things last night that I would wholeheartedly consider a talent…there was also some crap. Don’t you need to be good at something before you start calling it a talent? Singing is a talent…but not if you suck. There were a couple of “dance” numbers. There is a reason there are no world famous 5th grade choreographers. Speaking of dance…I have seen more clothes on Mtv Spring Break. There was one dance duet and I (very liberal) was embarrassed at what they were wearing. All they needed was a pole and they could have made a few bucks. They were barely clothed and dancing the hoochie to hip-hop. Now maybe this makes me sound old but come on people! Back to the definition of talent, one child brought in a video of her riding a horse. She is not an award winning horseback rider…just a five-year-old taking lessons. Is this a talent? I am asking you…is it? Maybe I am wrong…maybe these things are talents.
I don’t think I will go next year.
7 days until Spring Break
